I started being interested in Tarot cards as a teenager, I can’t remember why but I’d always had an interest in the supernatural, the metaphysical and the esoteric. Somewhere I acquired a Rider-Waite deck and began doing readings for my friends until some things I “predicted” actually began to happen and I got scared, mostly because I didn’t understand what I was doing and thought I was just “playing around”. Got rid of the cards, can’t remember how, and didn’t pick up a deck again until I was in my late 20’s. My interest in the supernatural, metaphysical, etc., continued and I’d taught myself a lot, about those things and religion and spirituality and become a little bit wiser with the learning. I got another deck, this time a Thoth deck, which I chose after a long search for a deck that really spoke to me and I felt comfortable using. I began doing readings again, first just for myself, while I re-learned and re-discovered the magic and ability I’d experienced before. Among the things the cards helped me with was choosing a school to get my Master’s Degree from (Mayan Art and Architecture, and I got a Maya-based deck!). When I became more confident, I began to do readings for others. I feel that the greatest thing I’ve learned from using the cards is that it’s a way to delve deep within yourself, and at the same time, puts you outside of yourself and into the context of the collective unconscious where the archetypes live. And sometimes, you get a little taste of the future as well, and it’s not really scary at all.

I learned all about the Tarot cards when undertook a Jungian course. A Head of English from a local university introduced them as a meditative tool and I was totally captivated. I am really looking forward to using cards here.

Please, Geek Goddess, put in more than your 2 cents worth! I love reading what others see in their cards, Jungian and other wise.

Dave~ Thanks for your comments and no, I don’t think you are crazy! The cards are tools and just like any tool, you can use them however you want. Some people like the structure of a written story to follow and others like to follow their intuition when interpreting. I think this is also why some people like to create their own decks~ so that the pictures match their inner vision.
