Card of the Day~ The High Priestess~ 3.27.07
Major Arcana card #II, Marseilles Deck, entitled La Papesse or Junon.
The Priestess, in her royal robes and crown, is seated on her throne in her temple. She holds the Book of Wisdom and the Ages, in which is recorded all conscious knowledge and all that is the unconscious collective. She is the Queen of esoteric and arcane wisdom, and she may- or may not- reveal what you need to know.
The Fool, after choosing his tools from the Magician, now encounters the High Priestess. She can tell him what to do with the tools, and where to go next, and everything he needs to know- but will she? Think of her as Glinda, the Good Witch in Oz, when she sets Dorothy off down the Yellow Brick Road. Glinda knows that Dorothy has the power to return home right then, but she “needs to learn it for herself”. And so the High Priestess does not answer all the Fool’s questions, but she will give him just enough to point the way to enlightenment.

I am using the Zerner/Farber Tarot Deck. I was enthralled with the images and later read that they are reproductions of 78 mixed media fabric collage tapestries, created by Amy Zerber. Wow! They are made from antique and contemporary textiles, laces, trims, ribbons and found objects. As one who loves to play in mixed media, I was so impressed I had to get the deck.
My high priestess is walking on a path through a garden, dressed in middle eastern garb with a lovely long blue veil and a delicate gold crown. She appears to be accompanied by a cat with wings (is that possible?) In the background the deep blue sky is heavy with a canopy of stars.
The high priestess focuses on intuition and I am to become more intuitive and receptive to benefit, letting my Higher Power work through me. I am warned that I must walk through chaos as this is the path I take to receive my blessing. (This is half my interpretation and half the info from the book.)
It truly is a lovely card with which to simply meditate. As if I am walking through the forest of chaos to reach the scenic land beyond. Any comments or other ideas? Do you know of this deck? It is certainly different from my Motherpeace Deck but I am rather enjoying something new. I’ve had Motherpeace since the ’80s.

I recently bought a beautiful deck called the Oracle Tarot, by Lucy Cavendish. The artwork work is gorgeous, lush, colourful – the High Priestess is blue and green, a swirling watery image. She invites you to dive deep, to penetrate the depths and seek the power of intuition.
I love this deck – the chariot is a shopping trolley, the Emperor is a woman. It’s a challenging, vibrant deck.
