There are as many decks of Tarot and related cards as there are personalities of people. I think that’s how one actually chooses a deck, based on their personality. I started with the Rider-Waite deck but switched to the Thoth, which remained my main and only deck for years. Then it seemed as if there were an explosion of different decks, everybody seemed to be creating decks based on mythology, religions, even movies. I found one that rose from the poems and artwork of William Blake and bought it. Then I got the Marseillaise, a classic. Then the Tarot de Paris, then…Hello, my name is Mari and I’m a recovering deck collector.

Hi, I am Gwenmand I have no control over my Tarot Deck habit!!! I am not in recovery, nor do I plan to seek recovery. I have 18 or 19 decks and I am not done with buying decks yet, I still have empty velvet bags for them!!!! LOLOLOLOL
My three main decks are the Rider-Waite deck, I use that for material concerns.
I use either my Arthurian or Shapeshifter Decks for emotional concerns, and I use my Thoth-Crowley deck for spiritual understanding.
Because of all the self-exploratory questions in Gerd Zeigler’s interpretation of the Thoth-Crowley Deck it is an excellent medium for growth and and enrichment.

I just bought my first tarot deck today – It is a set of Tarot Classic with a small book by Stuart Kaplan (in a box with 1974 copyright printed on it – no www’s or 1800 numbers – may have stumbled upon brand new vintage cards!) Also picked up a second hand book by Elisabeth Haigh, called The Wisdom of the Tarot. Plan to do a reading before I go up the Faraway Tree – I did do one on line but it didn’t seem right to do it that way. But they did use a beautiful Rennaissance deck. Think I’m hooked already – though I’ve no idea what I’m doing! This site is great! Any help is appreciated! I like the three card spread – nice and simple!
