The Three Card Spread is another simple card spread, like the One Card Meditation, yet it is a uniquely powerful spread because of the position interpretations that can be given to each card. For example, the first card drawn can be read as the Past, the second as the Present, and the third as the Future. Or the first can be read as the Body, the second as the Mind, and the third as the Spirit. Or the Subconscious, Conscious and Superconscious. It is the Reader’s choice, really, to assign what position interpretations are to be given to each card, based on what the Reader or the Querent is seeking from the cards. Here’s a sample reading: Let’s pretend we have centered ourselves, focused on our question or situation while shuffling the Major Arcana cards, and have drawn the three cards shown above. We are reading for ourselves and have asked for the cards to help us see what forces are at work on the starting of our new Tarot blog. We have assigned the card postions as Past, Present and Future. In the Past position, we have drawn the Fool. Yes, we know that is us, beginning a new adventure with high hopes and excitement, but not really knowing how to do a blog or how an online Tarot blog can work. We have our tools but don’t know how to use them as yet. The little dog barks a warning but we proceed anyway.
In the Present position (the middle card), we have drawn the High Priestess. This could be me as well, as Reader of the cards, but in this case we believe it is someone else, a wise and gracious woman who oversees this Lemurian universe. Perhaps it is even more than one person, it is a cabal of wise woman who guide and protect us in our journey here. It is reassuring to us to know that they are there. We continue onward into the Future, where we have drawn the Magician card. I interpret this card as me again, with the four suits of the deck laid out before me and working within my blog, giving readings, interpreting cards, laying before others the mystery and magic of Tarot reading. This is encouraging but the Magician card carries with it the warning of not using this ability in a negative manner, as a way to gain power or prestige. Be wary lest power corrupt. This is the meaning of the little dog’s bark.
